Current Event #2 A 12-Year-Old Girl Attempts to poison her mother for taking away her iPhone

"A 12-year-old girl was detained in Boulder, Colorado, on Friday after she tried to poison her mother twice in retaliation for her taking away the girl’s iPhone, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office told BuzzFeed News."
Whether or not you're for or against young kids having a smart device, kids have them, and when you take their precious electronics away from them, they tend to get A little upset. however, on March 2, A 12-year-old girl attempted to kill her mother for taking her iPhone away from her. The unidentified girl did so by putting bleach in her mothers drinks, such as a smoothie the first time, and the second time in her mothers water.
This is actually not as shocking to me as it is to most people. Is it scary? Of Course. But, something like this was bound to happen. We live in a society with people who's eye's are constantly on a screen of some sort.
It's a little unsettling that there's a lot less human interaction in today's world, but with the way technology has grown on us, almost like a companion, it seems as if humans are becoming more and more independent on tech. So dependent, we're willing to kill each other for it.

  1. You know that I was actually talking about this just this week? I'm glad you mentioned it! Society is so technology based that we are often looking at a screen: may it be a phone, computer or an iPad . Though I think that if her mother would have disciplined her daughter since she was younger by making her maintain a balance with technology this couldn't have a lesser percentage of happening. There are teenagers that have been disciplined by their that if they don't behave or meet certain expectations they will be privileges taken away. But the sad truth is that most children/teens nowadays are spoiled by they're parents and when they're parents try to discipline them is already too late.

  2. I believe that a kid should only be given a smartphone if they're mature and responsible enough. Any girl who would want to poison her mother for simply taking away her phone should not have been given one in the first place. Parents should not give out smartphones like Santa Claus and should only buy for their children if they promise to be mature and responsible.

  3. Did she get caught the first time or did her plan fail? What drove the girl into doing this, did she need to do something on it that was really important? Smart phones are not something every kid needs on less they need it to contact their folks.

  4. I think its crazy how for a phone you'd try murdering your own mother. I think this is where technology has brought us making it seem as though we can't live without it. We should have more contact with other humans but most of us do this through social media.

  7. Did her mom notice she was doing that to her? and it's true kids these days are having problems with technology. It's understandable to get upset but trying to kill your own mother that's going overboard especially because you are hurting someone that takes care of you. I also think kids 12 and under shouldn't have devices because it's only going to get them addicted to it and this is exactly what's going on these days. Technology is affecting everyone and it has come to a point where people go crazy.
